Цель: обобщить и закрепить изученный по данной теме лексический и грамматический материал, используя его в коммуникативных ситуациях.

Задачи:

  • Активизировать навыки монологической речи.
  • Совершенствовать грамматические умения, в частности – строить условные предложения 2-го типа.
  • Развивать умение объективно оценивать творческие работы одноклассников.
  • Воспитывать неравнодушное, ответственное отношение к нашей планете.

Оборудование: мультимедийный экран, проектор, магнитофон.

ХОД УРОКА

1. Организационный момент

– Hello, friends! Glad to see you again, the topic of our today’s lesson is “What Can We Do to Save the Earth?” At the last lessons we have been spoken about different ecological problems and today we shall try to answer the very important question: “What each of us can do for our planet”. One singer once answered this question in his song, it was Michael Jackson. These words will be the epigraph of the lesson. Please, look at the first slide and read them:

“Heal the world,
Make it better place,
For you and for me
And the entire human race.”

2. Фонетическая зарядка

– So, let’s start working. We’ll begin with phonetic drills and tongue twisters. And now I want you to repeat some words on the topic and name the sound under stress:
The Earth, pollute, pollution, protect, protection, environment, recycle, rubbish, packaging, throw away, waste, research, chemical… etc.

(После отработки скороговорок учащиеся повторяют изученные по теме слова, называя ударный звук.)

3. Лексико-грамматические упражнения.

– Now I want you to refresh the knowledge of topical vocabulary and grammar rules, work in small groups.

Possible tasks:

Task 1.

Make up as many phrases as possible using the following words:
Pollute, pollution, waste, protect, protection, protective, environment, environmental, antipollution, air, sea, problems, law, research, chemical, nuclear.
Use the phrases in your own sentences.

Task 2.

Complete the sentences using Conditional 2:

  • If people thought about the Earth before they throw something away,…
  • If people took as much rubbish as they could to local recycling centers,…
  • If people avoided buying packaged goods,…
  • If people didn’t waste paper,…
  • If people didn’t drop litter,…
  • If people cleared up litter near their houses, offices, schools,…

Task 3.

Write down 5 things you can do to reduce throwing away rubbish. You can use the following:
Throw something away, can be used, create litter, go shopping, buy packaged/ unpackaged goods, waste paper, write on both sides of the paper, buy recycled paper products, drop litter, clear litter, take rubbish to local recycling centers, as much as you can.

(После выполнения заданий можно провести взаимопроверку между группами.)

4. Чтение

Let’s start working with the text, it has no title and your task is to read, understand and give it the best headline, which expresses the main idea of the text. Explain your choice.

Possible titles: Help to save the Earth. / 12 rules to help the planet. / You are the part of the planet.

(Учащиеся практикуются в чтении и переводе текста из учебника. Подобрав заголовок, каждый объясняет свой выбор.)

5. Представление творческих работ

– Let’s go further. Your task for today was to prepare notices on the following topics:

Notices, protecting

  • people from dangerous animals,
  • air from pollution,
  • water bodies from pollution,
  • people’s health from bad habits and ecological problems.

– Now the speakers from the groups will present their notices, your task is to listen attentively, to discuss all the works and to find out which group is the best. Expressing your opinion you may use the following: useful, convincing, bright, easy to understand, informative, colourful, drawing attention.

(Творческие работы – различные предупреждающие таблички и знаки подготовлены ребятами дома по разным темам. На уроке выступающий от каждой группы защищает свой небольшой проект. Остальные учащиеся принимают участие в обсуждении и определяют лучшую работу).

7. Практика обратного перевода, работа с презентацией

– For our lesson we have prepared the presentation, in which you can find good pieces of advice for those who want to save the planet and your task is to translate them from Russian into English.

8. Заключительный этап урока

– All right, students, it’s time for us to draw to the conclusion of the lesson. Let everybody say what he or she can do to save the Earth.

Possible answers:

  • save the energy and the water,
  • avoid dropping litter,
  • held cleaning days,
  • buy less packaged goods,
  • protect forests and all living creatures,
  • recycle rubbish,
  • avoid bad habits.

– Thank you, all. I must say that we are closely connected with our mutual home- planet Earth. When we speak about ecological problems we mean not only nature, but also people’s health and problems of human relationships. So, take care about environment and you’ll be healthy and happy. At the end of our lesson I offer you to sing Michael Jackson’s song “Heal the World”.
