(Приложение 1, слайд 1)

Officially Christmas and New Year celebrations run from the 24th of December to the 2nd of January. (слайд 2)

What`s the weather at Christmas time?

Pupil 1: Playing snowballs and making snowman with the whole family is the most people`s dream. This dream is more than likely to come true in northern countries like Russia, but for British people it is different.

They are normally lucky enough to get some frost. In some cases the weather is wet and gloomy. This is not to say that British people are not used to wet and miserable weather, but at Christmas it is just too depressing to bear.

Teacher: For many British people Christmas marathon starts as early as the beginning of October. It starts with the first adverts on TV.

By the end of November you do shopping and spend as much money as you can and buy things your friends and family will never use.

An average British family spends €670 or more around the Christmas period. The money is spent on a Christmas tree, presents and essential food.

How many days do they spend together?

a) 3 days b) 1 day c) a week

Which traditions are still held at Christmas time?

a)going to parties b)staying alone at home c) giving presents to relatives.

It`s rather a short period of time but not all families get well with each other.

What irritates members of the family? What makes them lose their temper?

Pupil 2: It seems like a short time but in reality it is not. Firstly not all families get on well with each other. Secondly, even if it is not the case, it is difficult to stay calm and friendly amongst shouting parents trying to decide who knows better how to make Christmas dinner, screaming kids and grandparents giving invaluable pieces of advice. Besides there are things that have to be done at Christmas even if the whole family hates it. They are playing traditional board games, eating Christmas cake. All this creates some tension.

Teacher: These days there are lots of traditions which are usually held. You have already heard about them. I believe the tradition I`m going to tell you about is the best one.

Every new year people try to make their lives better. They give promise and make New year resolutions.

For example: “ I`ll give up smoking”

(приложение 1, слайд 6)

Here are New year resolutions of an Internet addict.

Make your own New Year resolutions and send them to Santa Claus. Don`t forget about the only one problem.

Most people forget their resolutions on January 2nd.

Finally the presents are bought, wrapped and put down under the tree. Grown-up children with their children, all relatives have come to grandparents. Everything is ready for Christmas dinner. Members of the family have played traditional board games and Christmas cake has already been eaten. Presents are being given…

Let us see the event now. (Sequence 2)

Now we are going to play and dramatize Christmas party.

All of you are the members of a big family. You have already got presents.

But there`s the problem. Santa Claus couldn`t remember which present was for which person. He`s muddled presents up.

Get role-cards, read them and act.

_Дети получают бейджики с именами, кратким описанием роли)

(Приложение 2)
