Цели урока:

  1. Стимулирование роста познавательной активности учащихся при изучении английского языка;
  2. Формирование речевой и социо-культурной компетенции учащихся в рамках предложенной темы;
  3. Воспитание уважительного отношения к культуре страны изучаемого языка;

Задачи урока:

  1. Обеспечить в ходе урока обобщение и систематизацию ранее приобретенных лингвострановедческих знаний по теме урока;
  2. Несколько расширить объем знаний учащихся по данной теме;
  3. Обеспечить дальнейшее развитие речевых умений аудирования и говорения;
  4. Развить коммуникативные навыки учащихся при помощи игровых элементов на уроке;
  5. Содействовать развитию умения работать в парах;
  6. Способствовать воспитанию эстетических чувств, этнической толерантности, чувства собственной национальной самобытности.

For a start look at the screen and try to guess which continent has got all these nicknames. (The answer: It’s Australia.)It’s clear that today we are going to talk about Australia.Which nickname is the most helpful? Why? SLIDE II
3. The aims:
The main aim of today’s lesson is to revise what we already know about Australia: its geography, climate, administrative division etc.You will also be able to get more information about this unique continent while listening to a citizen of Australia speaking about their favourite activities,wildlife, Native Australians and immigration to the country. It will help you develop your listening skills as well. SLIDE III

2. What water bodies is it washed by?

6. The description of Australia as a country: 
We have described Australia as a continent. What else can people mean when they say Australia? (It’s also a country.)
What is the official name of this country? (The Commonwealth of Australia)
Look at the national flag of Australia and say what you can see in the upper left corner of the flag and why. (The Union Jack as Australia was a British colony for many years)
Who is the Head of State now? (The Queen of the UK)
What does the large star on the flag stand for? (It represents Australian states and territories.)

7. Speaking:
I’d like to invite you to the meeting of representatives of the states. As you are going to attract more tourists to your state try to make your speech convincing and prove that your state is really worth visiting.

8. Making up a dialogue:
Handout: cards with the task for making up a dialogue.
I suppose it’s very exciting to travel about Australia. Imagine that you have been doing it for two or three weeks. However, your time is running out and you have enough time for visiting only one more state or territory. Discuss which state to choose and get ready to act your dialogue out. Remember to discuss all the options.
Feedback: Comment on your classmates’ dialogues. Have they coped with the task successfully?

Write a letter to your friend about your trip to Australia. Write between 100-140 words.
