What is the topic of our lesson?

Let’s begin our work. Today we are going to finish our working on our topic “What helps you to enjoy yourselves”.

The aim of our lesson is to control our knowledge, speech habits and skills.

Well, we have prepared for our work. Let’s discuss our topic. Try to answer my questions.

1. What arts do you know and what role does art play in our life?

- There are many different arts – literature, architecture, sculpture, painting, drawing, music, theatre, dance, cinema and others. Pieces of art can be perceived by eye and ear, they can be three-dimensional or two-dimensional. There are many styles and genres of art. Popular arts are music, theatre, painting and cinema. Though all people are different, everyone has his favorite art.

2. What can you say about music, painting, theatre and cinema? Tell us a few words about these arts.

- The word “music” originates from the Greek word “Muse”. There were 9 muses (goddesses) in Greek mythology; each was in charge of an art or a science. Music is the art of combining sounds of voice or voices and (or) sounds of musical instruments to produce harmony and express emotions. Pieces of music often move humans’ souls and make people feel and suffer. Being a small boy, Chaikovsky was shocked by the sounds of music. Music always was used to inspire troops before battles.

- The word “theatre” also originates from a Greek word. Theatre is not only the art of acting but also dramatic literature and the place where plays are performed. It was the Greek theatre where the main types of plays were defined (tragedy, comedy and drama). It is interesting to know that the tradition of making rich, beautifully decorated costumes also came from the Greek theatre. For centuries theatre has been the most popular spectator art for both rich and poor people. In Russia puppet theatres with Petrushka and other characters were very popular. Theatre was the place of meeting and dating for the nobles.

- Painting (the word is of Latin origin) is the art of portraying or representing objects with line and color. The first pictures were probably the pictures of animals and were drawn for the reason of magic. There are many items portraying gods. In Christianity they are called “icons”. The most famous Russian icon painters were Andrey Rublyov and Pheophan Greek. Moslem religion prohibited to portray people and let artists paint only flowers and things because they have no souls. Painters express their ideas through composition, coloring and light and shade effect. There are many techniques developed through centuries to interpret the feelings of an artist into flat images on a canvas or a piece of paper.

- Cinema is the youngest of the arts. It appeared in the XIX century when the special device was invented. At first, films were silent but later the techniques for shooting sound films and films in Technicolor were developed. Although the greatest cinema empire is Hollywood, the inventors of the cinema were the French not Americans. The Lumiere brothers invented the first film projector and motion-picture camera in1895.That year on the 28th of December they demonstrated the first three minutes film Arrival of the train. In that film, a train came towards the camera. People ran out of the cinema, thinking it was a real train.

3. What is the main difference between the theatre and the cinema?

- In the theatre you can see actors in life and they act right before you. In cinema all scenes are shot several times and than the best one is chosen.

4. What causes more emotions the theatre or the cinema and why?

- I think that cinema causes more emotions because it is more realistic.

5. What art do you like best of all?

- Of course, cinema.

6. What else do you know about cinema?

- I know that the greatest cinema empire is Hollywood. Hollywood is a part of Los Angeles. The main studios are situated and most of the films are shot there. All the inventions in cinematography first appeared there.

- I know that the first genres of American films were melodrama, western and comedy, later appeared adventure and historical films. But now the range of genres is much richer, for example: action films, horror films, thrillers, musicals, cartoons and others.

- I know that: the biggest film companies are MGM, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, Columbia Pictures, Warner Brothers and Universal.

  1. What is your favourite film?

- My favorite film is “Romeo and Juliet” by Baz Luhrmann.

I think this film is very touching. It preserves the tragedy of the play. The actors play magnificently This film makes you laugh at some moments and cry at others. I think that this fresh view at “Romeo and Juliet” is very interesting. To my opinion this film is absolutely great.

Teacher: - Well, pupils you know much about cinema. And what do you know about Russian cinematography? I want you to listen to the text about Russian cinematography. Listen to the text and try to understand the main idea.

- Of course, cinema. Because we all like cinema. It is so interesting. For example we can make a film.

- It is wonderful. Let us make a film.

- What will be our film about?

- About teenagers, their problems, their attitude towards life.

- You know cinema combines different art. That’s way people of different professions are involved in film making. Who are these people and what do they do?

- A director is a man who is the boss and tells everybody what to do and I want to be a director. I really want to try to make a film.

- An actor is a man who pretends to be another person and acts in a film. I want to be an actor.

- And I too.

- A producer is a man who has general control of the money for a film but he doesn’t direct the actors. I want to be a producer. I can find money for our film. I think now I go to our Principle to get money. Look, we have got money and we can start to shoot our film.

- And we try to write a script.

- And what about an advertisement. Who can make it?

- We. We try to do it.

- So we have discussed all our problems, prepared everything we need.

- So we are ready to show you our project.

Our film will be about young people and their problems. The main character of the film is a young girl. She is a pretty girl but she has some problems. The story line of the film is very simple but interesting. So, we present the script of our future film.

Script “Poor Marina”

Scene 1

After the lessons. The group of teenagers near the school. Discussing what to do.

Marina: - Oh, yes. Lessons are over finally. What shall we do? Let us go to the cinema or have a walk. And tonight let us go to the disco. There is a cool one in the “Green house”.

The first friend: - Marina, haven’t you forgotten that we have a lot of work to do. We have to write a composition about teen’s problems in English, to do a lot of sums, to write a report in history.

Marina: - Oh, my God! Disco – it’s so cool. Don’t irk me with your English. So, to go or not to go?

The second friend: - Of course, we do.

Scene 2

Great! Loud music. Everybody is dancing.

The third friend: - Marina what do you like best – rap or hip-hop?

Marina: - You don’t say so. It’s like ages ago. Funk and house are up-to-date.

The fourth friend: - Hey, who wants a bottle of beer?

Marina: - I don’t drink at all. It’s out of fashion. Nowadays, meditation is popular.

The fifth friend: - Marina, have you got a cigarette? Let us go out for a smoke.

Marina: - I don’t smoke. Minzdrav says: smoking can seriously damage your health.

Disco is over. Everybody is going home.

Scene 3

At home. 12 p.m. Midnight. Marina comes home from disco. Opens the door. Goes in. Tip-toes to her bedroom. Sleepy dad comes out, mom follows.

Dad: - Marina is that you?

Marina: - Yes it’s me daddy.

Dad: - And what time is it now?

Marina: - 12 o’clock.

Mom: - What time you must be home?

Marina: - Oh, I am so sorry. I missed the last bus. And taxi is too expensive for me. We had to walk. I am so tired, I want to sleep.

Dad and Mom together: - You are too late Marina. No more discos, no more cinemas, no pocket money and so on.

Marina: - Oh, I am a poor little Marina. My parents don’t understand me.

Marina is crying.

Scene 4

At school again. English lesson. The teacher asks Marina about her homework.

Teacher: - Well, Marina what can you tell us about teens’ problems?

Marina: - You know I hadn’t time yesterday. I had to write a paper in history, then do my hometask in algebra. Valentina Vladimirovna, may I tell you about teens’ problems at our next lesson?

Teacher: - No, Marina. Last time you promised me the same. Now, your mark is 2 for today.

Marina: - Oh, I am a poor little Marina. My teacher doesn’t understand me too.

Marina is crying.

Scene 5

After lessons. Marina is crying. Her boy-friend comes to her.

Boy-friend: - Marina why are you crying? What’s happened?

Marina: - I am a poor little Marina. My parents don’t understand me. My teacher doesn’t understand me. I’ve got bad marks in English, in algebra, in history. What to do?

Boy-friend: - Don’t cry Marina. I’ll help you. Let us go home. I’ll help you to do your homework.

The end.

Marina: - I’ll be back.

После показа своего сюжета учащиеся провели пресс-конференцию с актерами и задали им вопросы.

1. Marina what attracted you to the role of Marina?

Oh, I like my role very much. Marina’s problems are very close to me. She is so young and fresh. Sometimes she doesn’t know what to do and what a decision to make. Sometimes I feel the same. It was easy to me to play in the role of Marina.

2. Slava, do you like your role? What do you think about upbringing of teenagers?

I think Marina has hot a wonderful father. He loves her and takes care of her. He thinks he must be strict and exacting with his daughter. I want to be an exacting and strict father with my children too in my future.

3. Anton what do you think about healthy way of life?

I think we must take care about our health. Some teens smoke, drink beer and other alcoholic drinks, begin using drugs. It is dangerous for our health. I am fond of sport, I play football, basketball and so on.

4. Natasha is it easy for children to study at school?

Sometimes they have difficulties, of course. But they should be more responsible.

  2. Oh, yes, of course. We want to study and to have fun. It is so fun and cool.

  3. What are your plans for future?

We are going to make a new film about our heroes, their future life.

IV. Подведение итогов. Рефлексия.

Затем учащиеся обсудили сценарий фильма, который они показали.

- Teacher: - What do you think of the film?

  1. Marina’s problems are very close to me. For example: misunderstanding from my parents. They do not understand why I need to buy certain things, listen to certain music or spend most of my spare time with my friends. Father says I am a lazybones, mother cries sometimes.
  2. I don’t like such films. I like horror movies and action films. I like films which are full of fights and adventures.
  3. Thy story line of the film is simple but touching. This film is naive but I like it very much.
  4. The actors played magnificently. Best of all I liked Slava in the role of dad. He is so serious. He is a real actor.
  5. This film made me forget about all my problems. I understood that many people have more serious problems than I.
  6. It makes me great impression. It was so interesting to make our film. And now I see that it is a very pretty good film.
  7. It really put me in a good mood. I like melodramas and love stories.
  8. I enjoyed myself very much. My friends are really talented and perceptive. I often think about my future profession and sometimes I want to be an actor. It is so wonderful. I liked this film and enjoyed myself very much.
  9. Nothing is so good but it might have been better. May be our next film will be better. But we tried to do the best.
  10. The teenagers in this film talked about smoking and drinking. This film teaches us to take care about our health. It is so useful for us. It is good that Marina doesn’t smoke and drink. It is high time to give up smoking.
