T: You have seen the nature of our region is very beautiful. And what about our town?
Let’s talk about its climate and nature.

1. It’s Nerungri. Somebody comment on this!
P1: Nerungri is a small town. The buildings in Nerungri are modern and tall. They have 10 or 9 floors though there are buildings of 2 or 5 floors. The streets in the town are long and clean. There aren’t many people. Much noise and traffic. Our town was built in taiga kingdom. It is surrounded by taiga. I like my town.
2. Look! Our climate conditions! Comment!
P2: Nerungri is situated in the south part of Yakut Republic. You know Sakha is the north place. Climate is usually cold and severe. It is one of the coldest places in Russia. Summer and winter temperatures are very different. The winter temperatures are low enough. There are long hard winters and short summers here. Much snow falls out every winter. The strongest winds often blow. In bright and frosty days we like to play outdoors. We like to live here.
3. Who wants to tell us about trees, rivers?
P3 : I want to add about nature. It is beautiful. There are a lot of trees in the town. They are along the streets. In summer there is grass on the ground. There is enough fresh air in the town. I can watch the forest through the window of my flat. My family and me take long walks in the forest. We like to spend time on the banks of the river Chulman. Me and my friends enjoy the beauty of the countryside there. We love our place.
T: Do you swim in Chulman?
P3: I don’t swim in Chulman, there is very cold water. That’s why I like to swim in Nerungrinka.
4. Who will add something? What about boating?
P4: There are a lot of mountains around Nerungri. They are very attractive when the snow is sparkling under the shining sun. In summer we go out in a small boat and have a boat trip on the river Chulman. The rivers water is clean and cold. There is a lot of fish there. In autumn we harvest and gather red bilberry.
T: Do you gather mushrooms?
P4: I do. I like to gather mushrooms.
T: What about hiking?
P4: Yes, I like hiking to the forest and the mountains.
Т: I think we got more information about our town, our place where we live.

Is railway useful?
P1: The railway is very useful for people but destroys wild life and countryside beauty.
P2: There are industrial enterprises in our town. They produce a lot of waste and pour waste in the river Berkakitka and Chulman. They poison the water, but use clean water. Our factory makes water, air, the atmosphere dirty, and dangerous for people and animals to live in.
P3: There are a lot of different cars in Nerungri. As you know cars and buses have improved our lives. They made people’s lives and work easier. But agree with us: cars are dangerous for the people in our town; they ruin the countryside and the wildlife.
P4: It is a real town dump! We protest against dumping acid wastes and medical wastes.
They spoil the soil. Natures wildlife suffers from the waste. It will be better to recycle all waste.
P5: Do you know that power stations are dangerous for people’s lives and health? They produce not only energy, but they have terrible soot, and dust. Such stations pollute the atmosphere. They need better filters. The wind blows and carries all smoke on our town. The contamination of dust is ten times above the level. It is one ml. Per one cubic meter.
P6: But the greatest problem now days is the building of the new coalmine. It is a shock for the nature. Noise and pollution will be a disaster for the Yakut land.
T: After exploring the ecological situation we have come to the conclusion that the situation is very serious and dangerous.

T: I think that we must take care of our nature.

P1 We made the film about ecological problems in our town for all citizens.

P2: Our pupils organized ecological center in our gymnasia.

P3: I am a member of this center and I can tell you about our work. We have drawn posters to express our protest against awful destruction of the environment.

We want to live on the clean Earth. In order for us to help ourselves we must learn how to protect our planet. Even though we are not grown up yet, we can still help. In the spring we will plant new flowers, and trees in the streets of our city.
