How can we use our library? Now, Christina tell us, please.

Student 1: My school library.

Libraries are very important in the life of all people. We can’t buy all the books we want to read. That’s why we take out books from libraries.

There is a big library in my school. I must admit, it is not bad at all. It is a very light room, very clean and cosy, on the first floor. There are a lot of bookcases and bookshelves there. You can find there books of adventure stories, historical novels, collection of short stories and others. Nina Anatol`yevna, our librarian can you to find the book you need. There is a reading hall. Pupils go there to read and take books, to look through some new magazines and newspapers. Many teachers go to the school library too.

How can we use our school library?

Students:

  • We go to the library to take books to read.
  • We go to there to look through some new magazines and newspapers in the reading hall.
  • We have lessons on Culture of Bashkortostan.
  • We take books to do a project on different subjects.
  • We take textbooks on different subjects.
  • Our teachers go to the school library too.

Teacher: So, are there any differences between the two libraries?

Student: Yes, there are some differences between the two libraries.

Student 1: They have English lessons on the timetable. But we haven’t English lessons on the timetable.

Student 2: In Britain children like to come and choose a book themselves. The librarian helps to choose. In our library the librarian chooses the book we need herself.

5. Group work:

Teacher: All of you use a school, a local or a city library. Besides you have a collection of books at home. It will be interesting to know how you’ve collected books and how often you read them. Many of you attend city local libraries and our school library as well. Let’s work in groups on these situations.

Teacher: Now, friends, time is up! You, please.

Student: Home library.

I’m fond of reading. My parents are fond of reading too. My grandparents began to collect books. Now we’ve got a very big and interesting library. One can find books by Russian, English, American writers in our library. All the members of my family buy books and read them. My mother says that books help us in self-education. I use the books to do my homework on geography, history, biology or other subjects. If there isn’t any book at home I borrow them from my friends or from my school library. Sometimes my friends borrow some books from my home library. I’m sure that books play a very important role in my life.

Student: School library.

I like to attend our school library. I must admit our school library has a good stock of books. The librarian Nina Anatolyevna is always ready to help me in choice of books. I go to the library to read and take books, to look though some new magazines and newspapers. I like to read “...”.

It is very comfortable to have a library at school. I can go there during a break or after school to change books. Sometimes I work in the reading hall to prepare a project.

Student: I like to read different books. If I have got time I like to spend it with my favourite book. We buy books very often. But it is difficult to buy all books, which we want to read. That’s why I get books in a local city library. It is placed not far from my house. So I attend it once a week, there I can find the book, which I want to read. By the way, I’m fond of reading books about detective and fantastic stories. I think it is necessary to read a lot. I’m sure, that books are our friends. Reading books helps us in our education.

Teacher: Now, we see all of you like reading. I’m very glad that you attend libraries. You know, who reads much becomes smarter and it is interesting to talk to these people.

6. Report work: “Is reading important”

1) My favourite book.

2) The latest book I’ve read.

Teacher: Your homework was to make a report about your favourite writer and the book you’ve read recently.

(Сообщения учащихся)

Student 1:

I like to cook unusual dishes very much. Especially like to make experiments using different vegetables. I try to cook an interesting disk. I use the recipes from the culinary book under the name “Side dishes on any taste”. This book offers recipes to the children. I always read all recipes attentively and cook unusual dish for my family. Due to this book and my wish, dishes become tasty. Every time when I read it I learn something new for me.

I advise boys and girls to buy, and use such kinds of books. It will be very useful in your life.

Student2:

The book I have just read is called “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare.

William Shakespeare was one of the greatest and famous writers of the world. The book “Romeo and Juliet” was written in the nineteenth century. It is about love of two young people and hostility between two families. The author describes a life of young people. The main characters are Romeo and Juliet. They love each other. But their relatives are against their love. The author describes the tragic fate of the two young people. The end is very sad. I was shocked. I found the book very interesting.

Student 3:

I like to read books by William Shakespeare. I know that he was born in Stratford – upon Avon, not far from London. In his works he described the events contemporary life of England. His plays made Shakespeare a very popular person.

In all Shakespeare wrote thirty-seven plays. Besides plats Shakespeare wrote a lot of poetry, which are translated into many languages. His best and the most famous plays are “Othello”, “King Lear”, “Hamlet”, “Romeo and Juliet”. His plays were written many years ago, but they are popular nowadays.

Student 4:

The book I’ve just read – is “The Prince and the Poor”. The book was written by Mark Twain. Mark Twain is my favorite American writer.

The main characters of the story are two men. The first is a rich and important man. The second is very poor and he lives in a poor house.

Once the Prince and the Poor man met and exchanged each other’s life. The prince became the poor man, and the poor man became the prince. There were many do ventures in the story. The end of the story was very good. They exchanged each other again and began to live together. They began to help people.

Sometimes it is difficult to solve our problems in life. I think that books can help us.
