Цели урока:

  • познакомить учащихся с праздниками стран изучаемого языка;
  • воспитать чувство уважения к культуре других народов;
  • развить интерес к изучению английского языка.

Задачи:

1) Практический компонент цели:

  • освоить во всех видах речевой деятельности новые лексические единицы по теме “Праздники”;
  • научить выражать свое мнение и расспрашивать о мнении собеседника в пределах данной темы;
  • освоить употребление глаголов to make и to do;
  • повторить грамматическое время Present Continuous в утвердительной, отрицательной и вопросительной формах.

2) Развивающий компонент цели:

  • развивать культуру учащихся, культуру общения;
  • развивать навыки диалогической речи, внимания;
  • совершенствование навыков аудирования с целью получения заданной информации.

3) Воспитательный компонент цели:

  • воспитать уважение к традициям как части культуры разных стран;
  • научить работать в группах, выполняя задания по теме.

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент.

Good morning, my dear friends! I'm glad to see you. Sit down, please. I hope everybody is ready to work. Let's start our lesson. What date is it today? It's ...

2. Сообщение темы и цели урока.

First of all, listen to our aims and our plan. Well, our aim is to discuss some preparations before the holidays, invite our friends to the party devoted to New Year’s Eve and finally to get acquainted with some holidays.

3. Фонетическая зарядка.

O'K, boys and girls. Let's improve our pronunciation. Here are some tongue twisters for you. Repeat after me. (Слайд 2)

4. Работа с новой лексикой.

I'd like you to work with the following vocabulary. Can you explain me the difference between these two verbs? What do they mean? (Слайд 3) “To make” means to produce something (изготавливать, производить). “To do” means to perform an action (выполнять действие).

Well done! And now your task is to complete the following phrases. (Слайд 4)

Ex.1a on p.46 is very suitable for consolidating vocabulary. Fill in the gaps and then we are going to listen and check your results.

5. Повторение грамматики.

Look at the pictures on p.46! Everyone is getting ready to celebrate. But what are these people doing at the moment? Describe using Present Continuous. I'm sure you remember the rules of this tense. By the way, the example you can see on p.46 Ex.1b

6. Правила правописания

It's quite important to pay your attention to the spelling rules. As far as you know we make the Present Continuous Tense by adding -ing to the verb. But sometimes we have to change the word a little. Let's complete the following tables and refresh our memory. (Слайд 5)

If the verb ends in consonant + stressed vowel + consonant, we double the last letter. (Слайд 6)

If the verb ends in -ie, we change the -ie to -y. (Слайд 7)

If the verb ends in vowel + consonant + e, we omit the -e. (Слайд 8)

7. Тренировка употребления Present Continuous в речи.

Your task is to answer the question, looking at the picture.

1) Is she doing the gardening? No, she isn't. She is doing the shopping. 2) Are they doing the washing up? No, they aren't. They are making the decorations. (Слайд 9)

3) Is she making a phone call? No, she isn't. She is making a special dish. 4) Is she making tea? No, she isn't. She is doing the gardening. (Слайд 10)

5) Are they making a cake now? No, they aren't. They are doing the homework. 6) Is he doing the dusting? Yes, he is. (Слайд 11)

8. Аудирование.

Let's listen and complete the card on p.47 Ex.8. Look through the text and be ready to listen to it twice. Before listening I'd like to explain you the abbreviation RSVP at the end of an invitation card. It means "Просим ответить".

9. Формирование умений писать пригласительную открытку.

Why don’t create the holiday spirit? Let’s invite each other to the New Year’s party. You can write your own card or use the example on the board. (Слайд 12)

10. Знакомство с праздниками стран изучаемого языка.

Open your books on p.48 Ex.1a. Look through the holidays. Most of them are familiar to you, as well as the activities. Be ready to make conversations in pairs, using the examples on p.48 Ex.1b.

  1. A: When is Thanksgiving Day?
    B: It’s on the 4th Thursday of November.
    A: What do people do on that day?
    B: They eat traditional food (turkey, pumpkin pies etc.)
  2. A: When is St Patrick’s Day?
    B: It’s on the 17th March. (Usually in Ireland)
    A: What do people do on that day?
    B: They watch parades.
  3. A: When is Guy Fawkes Night?
    B: It’s on the 5th of November.
    A: What do people do on that day?
    B: They watch a firework display.

In order to broaden your cultural outlook, I’d like to tell you a few words about Guy Fawkes, also known as Guido Fawkes, who was part of a gang which planned to blow up the House of Parliament (government) in London in 1605. He was caught before he could light the gunpowder.

A: When is Halloween?
B: It’s on the 31st of October.
A: What do people do on that day?
B: They wear costumes.
A: When is May Day?
B: It’s on the 1st of May.
A: What do people do on that day?
B: They collect flowers and make wreaths to celebrate the spring.

A: When is Valentine’s Day?
B: It’s on the 14th of February.
A: What do people do on that day?
B: They exchange gifts, offer flowers and sweets.

11. Викторина.

Excellent! Now close your books and look at the board. Let’s do the quiz devoted to the topic “Feasts”! Your task is to make a right choice between two answers. (Слайды 13 и 14)

12. Подведение итогов и выставление оценок.

13. Домашнее задание.

Finally, I’d like to explain you the home task. Choose one traditional celebration in Russia and prepare a short conversation, describing some traditions, for example costumes or traditional food.
