1. T: Now we are ready to start our trip. First of all we shall start our trip, speaking about our native town Kozmodemyansk. I’ve invited the museum’s assistant Miss Popova.

P1: The town of Kozmodemyansk is the center of the Highland Mari Region. The town is situated on a high hill overlooking the magnificent Volga River. The historical records tell us that more than four centuries ago the Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible ordered a fortress to be built there.

In the summer, of 1583 the wooden walls with five turrets were erected and a moat was dug up. In 1698 a chapel was built in the place of one of the turrets to commemorate the Asov camping of Peter the Great.

By the end of the 19th century more than five thousand people lived in Kozmodemyansk and only 145 of them were Maris. The majority of Mari people lived in the neighboring villages. There were 7 churches, a convent with a hospital, a drawling school, three schools for men and one school for women, a library, a bank and an almshouse.

Love of freedom has always been one of the characteristic features of the Mari people. Mari people took an active part in the wars under the leadership of I. Bolotnikov, S. Razin. E. Pugachev. And in our time hundreds of the people of Kozmodemyansk went to the fronts of the Seconds World War to fight for freedom and happiness.

P2: The streets and buildings of the town are mute witnesses to distant events. The buildings there are really remarkable. Wooden buildings are short – lived. They are decorated all over with wood – carving which makes them look like fairy – tale flowers. Being a wooden town Kozmodemyansk burnt several times.

Stone architectures started developing. By the end of the 18th century seven stone churches had been built in our town. The pride of the town is the former Smolensky Cathedral built in 1872. The cathedral is being restored now. At present the cathedral houses the Museum of Regional Studies famous for its picture gallery.

The town is under construction. A new industrial part of Kozmodemyansk has been built up, a new center of the town has been formed.

The factories of Kozmodemyansk produce various instruments, bricks, and all kind of wooden things, clothes, butter, cheese and beer. The biggest enterprises are two instrument – making factories – “Kopir” and “Potential”.

Workers, offices and their families inhabit the three micro – districts of the town. In our town there are three secondary and two eight – year schools, a children’s musical school, an art school and a sport school.

The culture center of the newly – built districts is the Eshpai Palace of Culture. Yakov Eshpai is one of the founders of Mari professional music. His son Andrey, also a composer, is the People’s Artist of the USSR.

Kozmodemyansk is a small town where Maris and Russian live in one friendly family. They live in atmosphere of peace and stability.

Все учащие задают вопросы выступающим и оценивают их рассказы.

T: Now, let’s go to the river port. We are going to Moscow by the ship “Engineer Ptushnikov”

We are in Moscow now!

The traffic in the city is very heavy, isn’t it?

Стих:

Be very very careful
When you cross the street.
Look to the left,
Look to the right
Then look up and check the light.
We are tourists.

This is our guide. She will tell us about Moscow. And you are ready to ask her questions.

P1: My name is Julia. I am your guide. What do you want to visit in our town?
P2: As for me I am fond of art and I want to visit the Tretyakov Gallery.
P3: I am fond of plays and I’m eager to visit the Bolshoy Theatre.
P4: I have a sharp impulse to visit the historical places.

P1: Tastes differ after all. All tourists are staring to go sightseeing from the heart of our Motherland Red Square. Let’s go.

Red square and the Kremlin are well- known all over the world (Ученица рассказывает о достопримечательностях Москвы, ребята задают ей вопросы) (3 минуты)

T: I see you are tired. Let’s have a rest and sing a song “Those evening bells” (6 минут)

III. Обучение чтению и пониманию текста без словаря.

T: We are short of time. It is impossible to visit London. But we have got a letter from our pen friend Mary. She is writing about her capital. Let’s read it! (“55 устных тем” О Лондоне)

T: What have you learned from this letter.

IV. Развитие диалогической речи. (7 минут)

T: Now let’s exchange our opinions about our trip. Choose the flags of the countries you have visited and discuss your trip (Ученикам предлагаются флаги России, Республики Марий Эл, Канады и Великобритании). Ученики составляют диалоги:

      • Here we are in England. I’m glad the trip is over.
      • How long are you planning to stay in London?
      • Only three days. That’s why I’d like to make a trip through the streets of London right now to get a general impression of the city.
      • Let me accompany you. I know the city well. And the weather is so fine.
      • Oh, that’s the first surprise of mine. We used to think that there are fogs or rain in London nearly every day of the year. But the weather is very good today. A slight wind is blowing and the air is full of spring smells.
      • We’ll see more of the city if we take a bus and begin in the West End.
      • It’s wonderful! I quite agree with you. Let’s begin our journey.

V: Заключительный этап:

  1. Этап урока: T: In conclusion we must say “East or West – home the best”
  2. Your homework is to write a letter to your pen friend describing your impressions during your trip. You have worked very hard. You get excellent marks.
  3. Конец урока: The lesson is over. Good-bye!
